Art Advising

Art should reflect the person who lives with it.

Caressa Layne Miles approaches art advisory as an act of looking closely: at the art, at the space, and at the people who will live with it.

Her practice brings together her experience as an artist, curator, writer, and cultural strategist to help clients build meaningful relationships with art. Rather than beginning with a predetermined style or shopping list, Caressa begins with conversation. She learns how a client lives, what they respond to, what they want their spaces to communicate, and what kinds of encounters they hope art will create.

She works across contemporary and modern art, with a particular interest in emerging and local artists. Her approach is research-driven but deeply personal, balancing aesthetic intuition with thoughtful consideration of scale, context, provenance, placement, and long-term resonance.

For institutions, she approaches art selection as a form of cultural stewardship: identifying artists and works that can speak meaningfully to a particular community, environment, or mission. Her recent consulting work includes the selection of faculty, staff, and student artwork for the President’s Office and Sullivan Boardroom at Xavier University.

For private clients, the process is equally relational. The goal is not simply to acquire something beautiful, but to find work that continues to reveal itself over time. Intentionally sourced artwork becomes a part of the way a person inhabits a space and communicates to visitors in that space just who that person is.

The right artwork does more than complete a room. It influences identity, perception, and influence.
