Ned and Gloria Griner Gallery, Muncie, IN, U.S.
This work explores the intersection of fashion, jewelry, and sculpture. I experiment with the forms of organisms usually overlooked in order to showcase the unexpected beauty found in the natural forms around us. Through this body of work, I hope to immerse the viewer into a totally new perspective on one’s relationship to the natural world.
I choose to work with mediums that allow me to be sustainably conscious by upcycling fabric and other found materials. Elements of my work have always been salvaged from the unwanted pile in my closet, or thrifted from the local secondhand store. The natural elements have been collected from my own experiences in my environment, such as daily walks. I try to only use organic materials that have already fulfilled their natural life cycle. I combine these elements using traditional metalsmithing techniques. I modify and recreate the natural forms I have collected through the manipulation of vivid color and texture.
